Sound absorption

Sound absorption in accordance with ISO 354

A "hard" room with smooth walls, floor and ceiling resounds strongly and the sound levels are high. The acoustics of such a room can be improved by attaching a sound absorbing wall- or ceiling covering. The efficiency of the adjustment is determined by the amount (the number of square metres) and the sound absorbing quality of the covering.

This quality is expressed in the absorption coefficient, which varies from 0 for non-absorbing to 1 for completely absorbing. Measurements in the reverberation room determine the sound absorbing quality of a product.

In this room, the reverberation time is measured before and after attaching the covering. From the differences, the absorption coefficient of the covering is calculated.
